So it starts here proper, an eventful few days have been had, arriving in Capetown on Monday we have climbed table mountain, scaled Lion’s head and swam in icy cold water, my legs hurt, my back hurts so all in all a very strenuous week!
Yesterday was car collection day, the dutiful competitors lined up outside the hotel and awaited the bus, we climbed onboard and I sat with Sid James, the remainder of the carry on crew sat at the back like the naughty school kids, Tony being the ringleader!
All the cars started bar one, the bloody Alvis fell apart almost immediately with various throttle linkages parting company at the most impractical places, a car park entrance, at a green traffic light and again halfway down the hotel ramp! This vehicle is owned by Manoj Saxena.
“That’s not a name, that’s a position!” Cried David Roberts in the bar later in the evening, not wishing to enquire what he meant we bought him another glass of red wine to cease his loud tongue!
Up early this morning for scrutinising the vehicles, it went fairly smoothly only being interrupted by having to fit bits back on the ever shedding Alvis of the Saxenas!
It’s going to be an eatfest this Rally, already we have eaten the Atlantic Ocean, the grazing fields of South Africa and drank the vined hills of the western Cape! Serious dieting to be needed.
Skippy is in his element, Tony isn’t being really funny for once, Bob is just lovely and I’m simply amazing! Ha ha
This is shaping up to be a great event, really looking forward to the fun and adventure!
Some photos so far.
I seem to have a problem with photos, will try and sort
